Up again with the weight due to a lack of exercise and a poor diet. Still sickly with a bad cough. Finally – after two weeks – bought some cough medicine. We’ll see if it does the trick. Now, what to do about the rest of my problem?

Still need to turn things around after a month of bad habits returned.

It’s no excuse (well, it’s a little bit of an excuse), but I was pretty sick this week. I’m still fighting with a killer cough that burns in my chest and a head full of snot and mucus and all that glorious, disgusting stuff of colds.

Up again with the weight due to a lack of exercise and a poor diet. Even if the sickness lasts into this week, I’ll work hard on correcting the diet. Back to healthy portions and not so much out of control snacking.

Time to turn things around after a month of bad habits returned.

Random Weekly Challenge: “must exercise at least 5 hours
– not met (not even close to met)

April Wellness Challenge progress: __ sleep + [relaxation] __

6 & [1.5] + 7 & [1.5] + 7.6 & [4.5] + 9.25 & [6] + 8.25 & [6]

57.6 of the 35 hours maintained weekly (partial of 49) for the week.
57.6 of the total 210 hours needed for the month.

*sigh* The week did not go as planned. The Random Challenge was not met. My own personal goals for the week – more exercise, smaller portions, less eating out, fewer snacks, etc. – were not met. I wish I had something positive to report.

Instead, I have 0.8 lbs. of weight gain to share, and a surly attitude.

April Wellness Challenge

For 5 points, between April 1st and April 30th, you must sleep at least 6 hours a day and spend at least 1 hour a day enjoying a relaxing activity.

You are allowed to make up any missed sleep or relaxation time over the course of a week, but should try not to exceed 12 hours of sleep and relaxation time on any given day. A minimum of 210 hours of sleep and relaxing activities must be recorded over the course of the month. A Sleep and Relaxation Activity Log must be maintained each week throughout the month to receive the 5 points.

This weekly log can be included in your weekly progress report submitted to the comments section of my Progress Report.

Enjoy the challenge!

April - Rest and Relaxation Month

Before you even think it – this is NOT an excuse to be lazy.

After burning out with the exercise, I’ve found myself in a bit of a decline. There’s been some weight gain, some poor diet choices, and an overall lack of motivation and poor attitude.

So, I got to thinking. Instead of setting myself back on the same path, I decided to head down a different road. I’m attempting to combat the attitudinal and motivational difficulties of healthy living by challenging us to maintain a relaxed state of mind in the hopes that this tranquil state will more adequately balance the rigors of exercise and diet with the lackadaisical tendencies of real life.

The research is out there to support the fact that sleep and relaxation are vital components of a healthy life. The amounts of sleep and time spent unstressed vary from study to study, from individual to individual. This research has shown that a lack of sleep can increase the risks for obesity and depression. Thus, the quality and quantity of sleep are important factors in maintaining a healthy mind and body. For more information regarding sleep, click through to this great, in-depth, article on the topic.

It seems like a simple thing – common sense, really. But sleep and relaxation are the first things we sacrifice when pursuing a goal. I know I have; and, turns out, not to the benefit of my cause. Take a breath, pause – relax – and start anew: refreshed and renewed.
